Dr Poonawallah Conferred With Top Award

In a major first for Indian medicine, Dr. Cyrus S Poonawalla was conferred with the prestigious “Excellence in Inter-American Public Health” award for his efforts in the eradication of Congenital Rubella Syndrome in the United States.

The Chairman and Managing Director of Serum Institute of India was presented the award by the director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Dr Mirta Roses Periago, making him the first India to be recognized with such an award.

The Pune-based firm has been responsible for the manufacture of millions of doses of vaccinations over a period of 16 years in the country’s fight to eradicate the threat of Rubella.
