The Kankanwadi Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya in Belguam entered medical history books after one of its professors, Dr Mahantesh Ramannavar taught an anatomy class to 20 students by dissecting the dead body of his own father.
Dr Basavanneppa Ramannavar was one of the renowned Ayurveda doctor at Bailhongal and after his death two years ago, he donated his body to the Karnataka Lingayat Education (KLE) society for medical research with an unusual last wish of having his son dissect his body in order to teach for anatomy students.
AdvertisementDr Ramannavar revealed that he got used to controlling his feelings by using his father's body to teach anatomy to his students for a number of days before finally fulfilling his father's last wish. He went on to add that when he was alive, his father had prepared him to take up the dissection of his body.
"I have been using the body to teach anatomy to my students for several days now. I have learned to control my emotions. All family members including my mother have backed my decision", he said.
