A dieting book aimed at children in the age group of 6 to 12 years has come under fire from the public even before the book officially goes on sale.

Titled "Maggie Goes on a Diet", the book has been written by Paul Kramer and is supposed to go on sale in October.

However Barnes & Noble and Amazon have already started to accept advance orders for the book which has come under severe criticism from the public.

The book tells the story of a 14-year old overweight girl called Maggie who overcomes her weight problems and goes from being a "being overweight and insecure to a normal-sized teen who becomes the school soccer star". However comments on the two websites have not been kind with a number of people questioning the reason for targeting such a young age group.
