by Rajashri on Jun 10 2009 1:08 AM

In a first of its kind center in India, a Dental Implant Centre has been opened in the Government Polyclinic in Chandigarh. The center promises to give affordable dental implants to needy patients.

“A definite step on the road to giving tertiary care in the field of dentistry, the centre brings the world’s highly advanced know-how of replacement of missing teeth with a nickel titanium screw fixture, within the reach of the inhabitants of the city," said Dr RS Mann, in charge, Dental Implant Centre.

Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth, but are very costly and can rarely be afforded by the common man.

“UT administration has made this foray into the domain of the private sector not to fulfill any norms but to make available the costly implant facility to the common man at affordable price”, said Ram Niwas, UT Home-cum-Health Secretary.

The cost of a Nickel-Titanium implant at the center will be jts Rs 6,400 compared to at least Rs 20,000 in private clinics.
