Health official in Manipur will begin mopping and sanitation operations of birds from today to prevent the spread of avian influenza.
The process is being started a day after culling process was completed.Doctors from Mizoram, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have also joined in the fight.
Health officials have checked more than 235,000 people around the affected farm since the weekend for flu symptoms, while veterinary workers have culled a similar number of birds in the northeastern state.
Nearly 2,00,000 chickens have been killed in Imphal's Thangmeiband District, before being thrown -- along with eggs -- into huge pits that were then covered with lime and salt and finally with soil.
Over 45,000 homes in Manipur's East Imphal District have been searched for signs of bird flu.
According to the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, 163 persons are suffering from respiratory-related symptoms, but not from bird flu.

Out of the 45,032 houses surveyed, 935 were having backyard poultry. A total of 2,35,161 persons were covered.

The government has also refuted the reports of 'unusual' deaths of birds from East and West Imphal districts of Manipur or in any part of the country.
The outbreak of avian influenza in chickens in July on a small farm in Manipur was the first in India this year, making it the 25th country to report the occurrence of the H5N1 strain in 2007.
Myanmar has battled several outbreaks of bird flu in chickens this year, including one reported last week.
