Chinese Keen and Ready to Learn Yoga

by Hannah Punitha on Apr 26 2008 5:43 PM

Over a dozen Chinese students who are learning yoga here plan to start classes in China.

The yoga classes are being held following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Institute of Yoga and Consciousness of Andhra University and Planet Yoga of Hong Kong.

The students of Planet Yoga of Hong Kong have been overwhelmed by the professional teaching of yoga at the Indian institute.

"We are very lucky to have a chance to take up a diploma course in yoga here which is the original place for yoga. We have a clear concept of yoga learning here," said Marjorie Nu from Hong Kong.

The authorities at the Institute are also deeply impressed by the keen interest demonstrated by the Chinese in learning the ancient Indian physical and spiritual practice.

"They have shown a lot of interest in yoga. I taught them Sanskrit verses and prayers. They are very much impressed and recite Sanskrit prayers and shlokas," said Dr K Ramesh, professor of yoga, Andhra University.

Hong Kong happens to be the most competitive and lucrative yoga market in the world. It is extremely popular among the residents of Hong Kong as it helps them reduce stress and relax mentally and physically.

The Institute of Yoga and Consciousness has been set up by Andhra University for fundamental research on mind-matter interaction. Interdisciplinary in approach and international in scope, the Institute attempts to bring together the high technology of the West and the wisdom of the East for a fuller understanding of human nature and living a better life.
