by Rajshri on Nov 26 2009 7:50 PM

A new study by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh has found that the burden of childhood obesity is rising among Indian kids. The study said 15 out of 100 school-going kids in India are overweight or obese.

Childhood obesity is fast rising in the country and this study just highlights the growing problem. Obesity is linked to diabetes and heart disease as well as sleep problems.

However parents continue to have a lax attitude to the issue. Sedentary lifestyle coupled with high junk food intake is responsible for the increasing amount of flab in kids.

Experts say children must be encouraged to play outdoors and regularly exercise so as to reduce the burden of obesity.
