Chicago-based Doctor Who Donated Kidney to Patient, in India Now

A Chicago-based doctor named Susan Hou did the unthinkable seven-and-a-half years ago by donating her kidney to a needy patient. The good doctor is here in India and addressed a gathering on renal disorders in pregnant women ahead of the World Kidney Day on March 11.

"If we believe in the brotherhood of men, then there should be no second thought in donating your kidneys to anybody as no donation is unrelated," Dr Hou explained.

By donating her kidney to an unknown patient, Dr Hou took organ donation to a higher level and proved that you should not necessarily know a person to donate.

Dr Hou said her husband was initially skeptical about her approach, but was supportive later on.
