Chandigarh Bars Ordered to Serve Dal, Roti, to Minimize Ill-effects of Alcohol
Chandigarh bars ordered to serve dal, roti, to minimize ill-effects of alcohol.

Taverns in Chandigarh have been asked to serve basic food like dal and roti so that people do not go away drunk on an empty stomach.

The excise department here has made it mandatory for all bars to serve dal and roti, the region's staple food, in their establishments.

An official spokesman said that the rule will enable people to have food along with their drinks. It will also minimise the effect of liquor on the body.

To keep the food within the reach of people from all strata of society, the administration has even fixed the rate at Rs.25 for a plate of dal and four chapattis.
