A celebrity London nanny has been jailed for violently shaking a baby and causing it brain damage.
The judge told Jasmin Schmidt, 34, she had committed an act of "genuine cruelty" and she should be ashamed of herself.
He told her she was "unworthy" to belong to the nursing profession.
The German-born nanny showed no emotion at the Old Bailey as the Recorder Jeremy Gold QC banned her from working with children and sentenced her to a three-year term in jail.
Schmidt, of Primrose Hill, north London, was found guilty in August of two charges of causing grievous bodily harm to the baby.
Schmidt had been employed by the boy's parents, who wanted her to look after their child while they went to the 2002 London fashion week.
The following morning, the mother found her son to be "limp, grey in pallor and clearly unwell". He was rushed to hospital where it was discovered that he had a broken arm and a brain injury, Telegraph reports.
Schmidt, a qualified paediatric nurse who went on to work as a celebrity nanny, kept quiet about what she had done to him. Her refusal to tell the truth hindered doctors' efforts to treat the child and led to the family coming under suspicion.
The boy has since made a full recovery and is now a healthy six-year-old.
Sally Howes QC, prosecuting, said: "Miss Schmidt assaulted the baby. That assault resulted in serious injuries - bleeding and injury to the brain as a result of having been shaken, and also causing a broken right arm."
