California Hospitals Fined for Lack of Quality Care

Ken August, a spokesman for the California Department of Public Health., has revealed that some 18 hospitals in the state have been penalized for violating laws regarding quality care for patients.

Mr August revealed that a majority of the 18 hospitals are based in Southern California. This is the fourth time that the department has penalized hospitals ever since a law authorizing the agency to do so came into effect last year.

Any incident that as caused, or was likely to cause, serious injury or death to patients results in a fine of $25,000.

Anaheim General Hospital, Coastal Communities Hospital in Santa Ana, Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, Los Alamitos Medical Center, Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo, Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Fresno, Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, Palomar Pomerado Health System in Poway, San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital in Banning and Scripps Green Hospital in San Diego are among the 18 hospitals that were implicated.
