Recent guidelines provided by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (Nice) has said that women should be allowed to have their baby by caesarean section, if the wanted to, and in the absence of any medical reasons for the operation.

The only condition is that women should be aware of the risks.

Even though earlier guidelines did not permit caesarean on maternal request, it is now possible due to increasing safety of the procedure in recent years .

Deputy chief executive Dr Gillian Leng said: "This guideline is not about giving free caesareans for all on the NHS.It is about ensuring that women give birth in the way that is most appropriate for them and their babies."
