British Prime Minister Gordon Brown Cracks Down on Celebrities

by Hannah Punitha on Oct 2 2007 3:13 PM

Brown slapped down on stars of considering themselves above the law and insisted that there should be more positive role models, reports contactmusic.com. Though names were not mentioned it was clear he was referring to those celebrities whose names are mentioned daily in newspapers and websites.

He said: "There may be others who could be role models for young people, just as parents can be, just as friends can be, just as neighbours can be, and people who have a national standing who can do so. On the other side, of course, we have celebrities who take a very casual attitude to drugs, who think that their standing in the community makes them above the law on these matters.

"And that is another area where I think we have got to send a very clear message: not only that we will not decriminalise drugs but, at the same time, that this is unacceptable behaviour and the vast majority of young people will never fall for this."
