The Rwanda government has said that several people drinking from the same glass or with the same straw is banned from Monday.
The health ministry statement read on government radio said the measure was aimed at tackling the spread of tuberculosis and other infectious diseases."The use of the same dishware and eating utensils, especially glasses and straws which are widely used for drinking during social occasions, is strictly forbidden on the Rwandan territory," the statement said.
"During this period marked by Christmas and New Year celebrations, it is easy to be infected by tuberculosis by sharing utensils to drink beverages," the health ministry added.
According to official Rwandan statistics, the number of those infected with tuberculosis doubled between 2005 and 2007 to reach 14,000.
