Experts usually advice mothers to breast fed their baby exclusively for the first six months and then combine breast milk with solid food till the baby is a year old.

Apart from the many benefits for babies, mothers who breast feed carry reduced risks of developing many lifestyle diseases like high cholesterol, diabetes and heart disease later on in their life.

The study found that women who had breastfed for at least six months carried a reduced risk of developing high blood pressure over the next decade as compared to those who chose to give their baby formula milk.
