Cops in the UK have been banned from riding bicycles on health and safety grounds.
The force has stopped 300 officers and community support officers from patrolling on their mountain bikes in case they fall off and get hurt.
The mountain bike officers have been a huge success as they chase criminals down lanes and through parks.
But the force is scared that their officers are not trained enough to handle road conditions, after the death of a community support officer who was hit by a truck earlier this month.
'We live in a nanny state. How much training does it take to ride a bike? Police cars are involved in accidents all the time — it is sad but a dangerous job. That doesn't mean every police car should be put away after one tragic accident,' The Sun quoted Special constable and Tory MP David Davies, as saying.
Philip Davies, Tory MP for Shipley, West Yorks, and an anti-political correctness campaigner, added: 'GMP is making loony policies. God knows what health and safety will make of their armed response teams — probably tell them not to carry weapons in case they hurt someone.'
