Better Diabetes Control on the Anvil
Devices manufactured by Abbott Laboratories, Medtronic and DexCom Inc can all help keep blood sugar levels within the desired range in type 1 diabetes patients, researchers reported.

Better sugar control may reduce complications like blindness, kidney failure, heart disease or amputation.

These findings were presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes annual meeting in Rome and also reported in the New England Journal of Medicine.

In the study 322 adults and children were randomly assigned to use either a continuous monitoring device or to proceed as before.

The researchers said that 30% of the people who used the devices got their hemoglobin a1c readings below 7 as compared to 7 percent who used traditional methods to monitor their sugar levels.
