Bad Bosses can be Bad for Your Heart
Bad bosses can undoubtedly mar your career, and along with that your heart as well. Your heart health could be in jeopardy with a bad boss, researchers said.

If one works under a bad boss for a long time, it can have a cumulative ill effect on the employee's health, the study due to be published in Occupational and Environmental Medicine has suggested. On the contrary, the best rated bosses significantly reduced the risk of death due to heart disease for their subordinates.

During the study period of ten years, Psychologist Anna Nyberg, of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, followed 122 well-qualified men with an average age of 42. Their heart health was also studied. They were also asked to evaluate the leadership style, communication abilities, feedback system and method of delegation of their senior managers.

The study results convinced Ms Nyberg of the relationship between bad bosses and bad health which cut across barriers of class, income, lifestyle, and other risk factors of heart disease.

More detailed study with respect to women employees is necessary to ascertain if they carried similar risks as men.

The outcome of the study should be a lesson for all leaders - to communicate properly and be empathetic towards their subordinates.
