The practice of holding summer barbeques are being seen as one of the major reasons for the rise of obesity in Britain, a group of health experts warned.
According to researchers from the Boots and the Tony Ferguson Weightloss Programme, men consume more than 3,500 calories in a single barbeque sitting while women consume more than 2,500 calories. Steaks, sausages and potato salads are some of the most commonly used eatables in barbeques.
The researchers went on to add that on an average, a family has nine barbeques every summer. Introducing a more healthy diet in the barbeques will go a long way in controlling the rise of obesity in the country, the researchers said.
"Fish is also great. Peppered tuna is quick on the barbecue and it's full of omega 3s and 6s. Even a steak is great so long as you cut the fat off", said Gaila Ferguson, the co-founder of the Tony Ferguson Weightloss Programme.
