Aurobindo Pharma is now part of the Medicines Patent Pool, which will enable the company to make a range of AIDS drugs licensed to the pool by Gilead Sciences.

This development has elevated Aurobindo Pharma as the first major generics company to involve in the making of anti-retrovirals (ARVs) so that it is accessible to the poor people.   

 
Aurobindo Pharma will also be permitted to market tenofovir to several countries without royalties.
