Another Domestic Help Arrested in the New Delhi Twin Murder Case

by Gopalan on Jun 19 2008 11:26 AM

A struggling Indian investigating agency has effected yet another arrest in the sensational New Delhi twin muder case. Rajkumar, domestic help of Durranis, business associates of the Talwars whose daughter was one of the two killed, is under the scanner now.

Aarushi, a class 9 student of Delhi Public School (Noida) was found dead with her throat slit in her family's Jal Vayu Vihar apartment on May 16. The police initially named domestic help Hemraj as the prime accused but his own dead body was found on the building's terrace the next day.

Aarushi's dentist father Rajesh Talwar was arrested on May 23. The police claimed he killed Aarushi in a fit of rage as he objected to her closeness to Hemraj, but the family has strenously denied the police allegations.

Initially there was some support among the local community for the doctor. He was being persecuted, they charged, though nobody could explain why he should be targeted.

For that matter even Mrs.Nupur Talwar who has rallied behind her husband would not say who else could have committed the murders.

She has also been making contradictory statements as to when she discovered the body. Nor would she say how come they themselves did not discover the body of Hemraj lying on the terrace for one whole day.

The Central Bureau of Investigation  which took over the investigations from the UP state police does not seem to have made much of a headway despite the arrest of Krishna, Talwar’s compounder and several rounds of lie-detector, psycho-analysis and narco-analysis of the key figures in the riveting drama.

Wednesday it summoned Talwar’s associates  Dr Anita Durrani and her husband Dr Praful Durrani for questioning. The couple were grilled for several hours. It has been learnt that the two were also subjected to a psycho-analysis test. The CBI had conducted a lie detector test on their help, Rajkumar, on Tuesday.

Talwar's compounder Krishna, meanwhile, continues to be in the custody of the CBI.

Some reports suggest that Krishna had stated during narco-analysis that it was Rajkumar who tried to rape Aarushi Talwar and later killed her.

But it is still not clear that how come Aarushi’s parents, Dr.Rajesh Talwar and Nupur Talwar, had not heard the screams from their daughter when they were inside the home at the time.

The investigators are also looking at the possibility that Aarushi's murder may have been a contract killing. Aarushi's mother Nupur had apparently withdrawn Rs 26,000 from her HDFC Bank account two days before the murder.
