A survey conducted among 400 men suffering cancer has revealed that more than 50 per cent of them have turned to alternative medicine for relief. They also meditate, pray and exercise and do yoga in a bid to find a cure.

"Many complementary therapies have the potential to help reduce common side effects of cancer treatment and disease symptoms. For example, acupuncture and acupressure may relieve chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting; hypnosis and massage are beneficial for cancer-related pain; and meditation and relaxation techniques can relieve fatigue", study authors said.

Most oncologists are unaware that their patients were also trying out alternative therapies. The study showed that male cancer patients' first choice was to go for dietary supplements and the second was prayer.
