AMSA Launches National Medical School Guide
The Australian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) has launched its first AMSA Med School Guide, serving as a valuable tool for any student considering a career in medicine. The AMSA Medical School Guide is endorsed by the Australian Medical Association and Medical Deans Australia and New Zealand, and features detailed course information on each of the 19 medical schools taking applications in 2008.

The AMSA Med School Guide has been compiled and edited by AMSA Community Liaison Officer and fourth year medical student Mr. James Hillis. It explains in detail the various student entry levels, admissions tests, scholarships and support schemes available to prospective medical students. It also provides an insight into the many career opportunities existing within the field of medicine, and features links to specialty College websites.

AMSA National President Mr. Rob Mitchell today said, “the AMSA Med School Guide will serve as an invaluable tool for anyone hoping to study medicine. The entry process into this profession can be both stressful and daunting; it is my hope that this Guide will help students understand what each of Australia’s medical schools have to offer.”

The AMSA Med School Guide features essential information on each of Australia’s medical schools, including academic prerequisites, selection criteria, course duration and structure, entry streams, research and elective opportunities, accommodation details and rural clinical school information.

“Prospective students will now have access to all the available options for studying medicine in Australia at the click of a button. Exploring the myriad options for medicine in Australia is no easy task; I hope the advent of the AMSA Med School Guide makes this process far clearer. I have no doubt the Guide will aid many a student in what can be a difficult and overwhelming decision-making process.”

The AMSA Med School Guide is available on the AMSA website at:
