Alfie Clamp, a British toddler has an extra strand of DNA that has baffled doctors who have been confronted with this extremely rare genetic disorder for the first time.

Alfie has gone through a long chain of problems in his brief life. He was born blind, with severe disabilities, including learning difficulties. He continues to suffer from stomach problems, and is on several drugs to help his body to absorb nutrients. He goes through fits sparked by high temperatures and metabolic problems.

Doctors have stated that the extra strand of material in his seventh chromosome is the cause for his health problems. They are not sure whether the condition will sort itself out as he grows older or even whether he will live long enough to see it sorted out.

Meanwhile, Alfie and his parents continue to go through each terrifying situation as it comes up. Several times he had nearly died, but always he has come back to take up life again. His father says, 'Having Alfie has changed our lives, everything revolves around him.  But he is such a happy boy and he's brought us a lot of joy.'
