80 Children Fall Ill After Taking Mid-Day Meal at Two Government Schools in Bihar

In Bihar, about 16 million students in 72,000 schools daily get food under the mid-day meal scheme. On Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at least 80 children fell ill after taking their mid-day meal at two government schools in Bihar.

About 50 children fell ill after eating the meal at a school in Samastipur district, around 100 km from Patna; while 30 children fell ill at a school in Bagaha district. The children started complaining of uneasiness after eating the meals, followed by vomiting and loose motions. They were admitted to hospitals immediately.

Soon after the children consumed their meal at a school in Tangraila village, they first complained of uneasiness followed by vomiting with some of them fainting.

An official informed, "All the children are out of danger and their medical condition is stable."
