72% of Women Belonging to Scheduled Tribes in India Married After 18 Years: Census
The Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India released the 2011 Census data on marital status of people belonging to the Scheduled Tribes (STs). It shows that the percentage of those widowed, divorced or separated had increased in most age groups when compared to the 2001 Census.
Among STs, out of 104,545,716, the number of married people are 46,700,848, constituting 44.7% of the total ST population. More than half of the marriages took place in the age group of 20-24 and more than 72% of the women got married after they were 18.

Percentage of the widows stood at 4.6% and those separated was 0.4%. The percentage of those divorced constituted 0.2%.

The total number of married women increased across all ages. Total children born to women in all the ages, however, decreased in all the states and UTs. Total number of surviving children increased in almost all the states and UTs in comparison to the corresponding figures of 2001 Census.
