The New Year was not so pleasant for a couple of women. In an outrageous incident two women were molested by a mob of 70-80 men at Mumbai's Juhu beach area.
This is second such incident in the past two years, which has brought a bad name for Mumbai.
The two women came out of the hotel J W Marriott at 1.45 a.m. with two male friends, and began walking towards the Juhu beach.
A mob of about 70-80 men started teasing them when one of the women swore loudly at the hooligans. But the mob, pounced on them.
A national daily cameraperson spotted a police van and called for help, following which the police rushed in and chased away the mob. However, no case has been registered so far.
While talking to the media, ACP (Western region) Mumbai Archana Tyagi said, 'We are trying to find out the facts of the story published in a newspaper and also talking to traffic officer and reporters to help in the investigations, but this is shocking and strict action will be taken against the culprits.'
Last year, a similar incident had disgraced Mumbai when a girl was molested by revellers at the Gateway of India on New Year's eve.
