50 School Children in Bihar Fall Ill After Eating the Mid-Day Meal
The Mid-day Meal program is a school meal scheme of the Government of India designed to improve the nutritional status of school-age children nationwide. At least 50 children fell ill on Thursday, June 25, 2015, after eating their mid-day meal at a government school in Bihar's Patna district. The Police has collected samples of the meal for forensic examination.
A district official said, "Soon after the children consumed their meal at a middle school in Tangraila village under Naubatpur block, they first complained of uneasiness followed by vomiting with some of them fainting. All the children were admitted to the referral hospital in Naubatpur, about 25 km from Patna. They will be discharged by Thursday night."

The doctors who examined the sick children did not find any sign of poison in their bodies.

Earlier this week, 72 children fell ill after having their mid-day meal at two government schools in Bihar's Bhojpur and Muzaffarpur districts. Officials revealed that a lizard was found in the meal served to them.

About sixteen million students in 72,000 schools across Bihar get mid-day meal daily.
