3000 Government Doctors Likely to Resign in Orissa
Almost 3,000 doctors in Government hospitals in Orissa have threatened to resign on August 27, following the alleged indifference by the government, specifically the lackadaisical approach towards promises made to them six months back.

The Orissa Medical Service Association (OMSA) confirmed that the chief minister had made a public six-point announcement in the assembly stating that doctors at the entry level would receive a salary of Rs 8,000 along with Class-I status, special allowance of Rs 3,000 per month, more transparent transfer policies, and security during duty hours.

Sadly, the government has made no effort to keep these promises till now.

Expressing disappointment, OMSA president Madhusudan Mishra said, “Over 3,000 doctors working in government hospitals will tender their resignation from their posts to protest against the non-implementation of announcement made by Chief Minister Mr. Naveen Patnaik.”

For a long time there has been friction between the doctors and the state administration on matters of pay and allowances. The situation is so disheartening for many freshers who prefer to work outside the state due to lack of facilities.

The state administration needs to get its act together fast to stop the imminent agitation brewing in the fraternity which can bring health services to a halt for as many as four crore people living in the state.
