3-Year Old Girl Creates History As the Youngest Organ Donor in Kerala
A new history has been created in organ donation by a 3-year-old girl in Kerala. She has become the youngest organ donor in the state.
Anjana, a resident of Enikkara, near Karakulam in Thiruvananthapuram was declared brain-dead at the Sri Avittom Tirunal (SAT) Hospital after she collapsed at her home while playing.

The doctors informed her parents about the remote chances of getting her back to life and requested to them donate her liver, kidneys and corneas. Following consent from Anjana’s parents, the Kerala Network of Organ Sharing (KNOS) coordinated harvesting of the organs. Later the liver and kidneys were being transplanted into a five-year-old boy at a hospital in Kerala.

“A patient who needed the organs had registered with us as a prospective beneficiary. Harvesting was initiated soon after securing consent from the deceased child’s parents. The surgery is going on. It’s a multi-organ transplantation and it will take time.” said a KNOS official.
