Storyline : A Victorian surgeon rescues a heavily disfigured man who is mistreated while scraping a living as a side show freak. Dr. Frederick Treves meets the Elephant Man in a freak show and admits him to the hospital to treat him for injuries and bronchitis. The doctor discovers the Elephant Man is educated, can talk and his name is John Merrick. The story is based on the true story of Joseph Merrick, a 19th century English man afflicted with a dis figuring congenital disease.
