Storyline : Dexter, age eleven, who has AIDS, and his next door neighbor Eric, a little older and much bigger, become best friends. Erik also becomes closer to Dexter's mom than his own. Together the two boys plan to build a raft and float down the Mississippi River to get to Mexico, they have heard there is cure for AIDS. They fail as Dexter’s mom catches them when they reach New Orleans and Dexter finally succumbs to his disease. Erik attends his funeral and places one of his shoes in the coffin.
