Storyline : Toshiro portrays Dr.Kyojio "RedBeard" a gruff but caring head doctor at a 19th century clinic for the poor. Sorely in need of competent assistance, Red Beard takes on a new intern, the ambitious Noboru Yasumoto. Initially, Noboru is put off by the condition of the hospital and impoverished patients. Later he starts respecting wise old Red Beard and starts working wholeheartedly.
