What is Tietze's Syndrome ?  

Inflammation of one or more of the costal cartilages (cartilages with which the rib cage is attached to the sternum.


Cause(s) :  
  • Physical strain
  • Minor injury with repeated coughing, sneezing or vomiting
  • Radiation therapy to the chest/breast is a possible cause
Symptoms :  
  • Acute pain in the chest
  • Tenderness and swelling of various degrees of the cartilages affected
  • Pain can be identical to heart attack and the patient may pass out due to panic or anxiety
Diagnosis and Tests :  
  • Chest X-ray
  • ECG
