What is Peutz-jeghers Syndrome ?  

An autosomal dominant genetic disease characterized by the development of benign tumour-like polyps in the gastrointestinal tract. Affected person has a high risk of developing cancers of the GI tract, pancreas, cervix, ovary and breast.


Cause(s) :  

Symptoms :  
  • The affected child has small dark-coloured spots on the lips, around and inside the mouth, near the eyes and nostrils and around the anus
  • Multiple polyps in the stomach and intestines during childhood or adolescence
  • Bowel obstructions, chronic bleeding, abdominal pain
Diagnosis and Tests :  
  • Endoscopy
  • Biopsy
  • Ultrasound
