Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't
matter. - Mark Twain
How much ever is being said about aging gracefully, back pain still remains one of the significant health problems haunting the older generation. Four out of five adults will experience at least one bout of back pain at some time in their lives. It remains a significant health issue that demands high priority as of today. In some cases, a change in the lifestyle, reassurance, accompanied by medication and or physiotherapy can be seen to work wonders.

In 1901, a 51-year-old woman, Auguste D, was admitted to the state asylum in Frankfurt. She was suffering from cognitive and language deficits, auditory hallucinations, delusions, paranoia and aggressive behaviour, and was studied by Alois Alzheimer (1864-1915), a doctor at the hospital. The disease has been named after him and retains it's glory even today because it is used to refer to the most common cause of senile dementia. From, what was known at that time, we have come a long way in understanding the disease process. Work is also being done to exploit the potential of stem cells, in the treatment of this degenerative disorder.
