Glossary
Computed Tomography (CT scan) - A diagnostic imaging technique in which a computer reads x-rays to create a three-dimensional map of soft tissue or bone.
Computed tomography (CT) scan - A n x-ray technique that produces cross-sectional images of tissue structures through the body
Computed Tomography (CT) scanning - An imaging technique that uses a computer to organize the information from multiple x-ray views and construct a cross-sectional image of areas inside the body. Also called computerized axial tomography (CAT) or CT scan.
Computed Tomography - CT scan. A series of detailed pictures of areas inside the body, taken from different angles; the pictures are created by a computer linked to an x-ray machine. Also called computerized tomography and computerized axial tomography (CAT) scan.
Computed Tomography Colography - A method under study to examine the colon by taking a series of x-rays (called a CT scan) and then using a high-powered computer to reconstruct 2-D and 3-D pictures of the interior surfaces of the colon from these x-rays. The pictures can be saved, manipulated to better viewing angles, and reviewed after the procedure, even years later. Also called virtual colonoscopy.
