Bone Marrow Biopsy - The removal of a sample of tissue from the bone marrow with a needle for examination under a microscope.
Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy - Procedure in which a dye or radioactive substance is injected near the tumor and flows into the sentinel lymph nodes(s) (the first lymph node(s) that cancer is likely to spread to from the primary tumor). A surgeon then looks for the dye or uses a scanner to find the sentinel lymph node(s) and removes it (or them) to check for the presence of tumor cells.
Stereotactic Biopsy - A biopsy procedure that uses a computer and a three-dimensional scanning device to find a tumor site and guide the removal of tissue for examination under a microscope.
Incisional biopsy - The surgical removal of a portion of an abnormal area of tissue, by cutting into (incising) it, for microscopic examination.
Excisional Biopsy - A surgical procedure in which an entire lump or suspicious area is removed for diagnosis. The tissue is then examined under a microscope.
