Non-profit Announces National Call to Action for Individuals Touched By Brain Cancer

Voices Against Brain Cancer (VABC), has declared May 9th as National Gray Day, in support of brain cancer awareness. Following the 2013 passing of the Louisiana Legislature by the House Concurrent Resolution 38, establishing May 9th as Louisiana Gray Day, VABC is lending its voice to further raise recognition for Gray Day by creating a national call to action.

• Recruit influencers and notables in your city/town to support the fight;

• Change your social media profile picture to a gray ribbon or support with the hashtag #GrayDay;

• Become a VABC Ambassador/Voice;

• Coordinate and host an event in your town;

• Wear gray, and  encourage others to do the same.

The first annual "Louisiana Gray Day" petitioned by Louisiana native, Mona Leingang, was held in honor of her late husband, Gary Leingang, who lost his battle with brain cancer. In his memory, Mona decided to keep his fight alive and recruited Louisiana, their home state, to join the fight. Upon hearing of Louisiana Gray Day, Voices Against Brain Cancer Founder, Mario Lichtenstein, who lost his son, Gary Lichtenstein, at the age of 24 to brain cancer, wanted to lend a larger voice to her cause and help bring this day of awareness to the entire country.

"My husband, Gary, died from brain cancer in 2010 and one of the last things he asked us to do was to make something good come of his death. We are hoping that citizens throughout the state and now, the nation, will join our crusade to raise awareness by wearing gray on May 9th," said Mona Leingang.
