NEW YORK, April 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Description General Report Contents - Market Analyses include: Unit Sales, ASPs, Market Value & Growth Trends - Market Drivers & Limiters for each chapter segment - Competitive Analysis for each chapter segment - Section on recent mergers & acquisitions The optical biometry device market is expected to grow over the forecast period due to sustained expansion of the number of units sold. Optical biometry devices are newer than ultrasound A-scans and pachymeters and are used in the same settings as these more traditional devices. In cataract surgery offices, optical biometry tends to be used alongside ultrasound equipment. The relatively new technology has not replaced the market for ultrasound devices because there remains a subset of cases for which ultrasound is a more effective measurement technique. As such, the market for optical biometry devices is driven more by the expansion of new and existing cataract surgery practices and less by the replacement of ultrasound devices with the more accurate alternative. With growth in the number of cataract procedures resulting from the aging population, practices are expected to continue to expand their capacity over the forecast period. In addition, new offices are expected to open at a rate similar to the growth of the patient pool. Prices, however, have established consistent values and will only see slight erosion throughout the forecast due to competition. Abstract Optical biometers are partial coherence interferometry devices designed to generate a range of biometry measurements as well as to assist with intraocular lens (IOL) calculations. Optical biometers are capable of taking multiple measurements including axial length, anterior chamber depth, corneal thickness and lens thickness. All measurements are taken at a single optometry or ophthalmology station. Contact with the cornea is not required for the functioning of optical biometers, which improves measurement accuracy.
