Organization will use funds for the spread and scale of its pediatric model of group healthcare

BOSTON, Dec. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Centering Healthcare Institute (CHI) received a $100,000 grant from Richard W. Goldman Family Foundation to help increase access to and awareness of CenteringParenting, a model of group healthcare for the first two years of life.

This investment will support the expansion of access to a Centering continuity model, allowing families to benefit from high-quality, evidence-based group care for prenatal care through age two of the child. Additionally, this partnership will result in new educational materials to support CenteringParenting and the Centering model.

CHI is committed to increase the number of Centering sites offering group care from pregnancy to age two (and beyond), particularly in communities served by Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and community clinics.  Families from minority and low-income communities experience disparities in health outcomes associated with poverty, institutional racism, low education, and isolation.

"With this financial support we'll continue our efforts to utilize the opportunity afforded by the medical visit to offer more tools and support to families through innovative group healthcare," says Angie Truesdale, CEO of Centering Healthcare Institute. "A CenteringParenting medical visit combines the pediatric health assessment and interactive learning into a warm group setting, which allows relationships to form, building a community of support for families.  This combination, along with much more time with the healthcare provider, is the magic to how Centering works."

In nearly 100 published studies and peer-reviewed articles Centering demonstrates improved outcomes. Centering has been shown to have a profound positive impact on health outcomes and increase the chances a new family has to thrive.

CHI is improving health by transforming care through Centering groups. With over two decades of experience in group healthcare, CHI has developed and sustained the Centering model in more than 500 practice sites and within some of the largest health systems in the world. The evidence-based model of group medical visits brings patients out of the exam room and into a group setting where they learn from their providers and each other.  Working with many dedicated individuals and organizations, CHI is building a future where group healthcare becomes the standard of care.
