LAS VEGAS, Sept. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Las Vegas ophthalmology practice, Center For Sight, announces its implementation of ground-breaking laser technology for the treatment of floaters, a common and sometimes debilitating ophthalmological condition. With its purchase of the Tango Reflex™ laser platform, manufactured by Ellex Medical Lasers, Ltd., of Australia, the multi-site eye center now offers vitreolysis, a safe and effective treatment option for patients with symptomatic floaters, small pieces of debris that float in the eye's vitreous humor, casting shadows onto the retina and causing visual disturbance.

"Floaters are one of the most frequent complaints I have from patients.  Before vitreolysis, the only treatment available was vitrectomy, which is the removal and replacement of the vitreous humor, the clear, jelly-like substance in the main chamber of the eye.  This surgery carries a high risk of complications and is reserved for the most severe cases.  Now, with Tango Reflex, reduction of floaters becomes almost routine," said Center For Sight eye surgeon and medical director, Eva Liang.

Around 30 percent of the general population has symptomatic floaters that significantly impair their vision. Historically, because of the high risk of retinal injury associated with conventional YAG lasers, the majority have usually been advised to tolerate their symptoms. Next-generation Tango Reflex™ laser technology safely effects the vaporization of floaters, making vitreolysis a safe option for millions of people.

During vitreolysis, the Tango Reflex™ laser emits a short and small burst of energy at a potent power density.  The energy converts the collagen and hyaluronic molecules found in a floater into a gas, which is then resorbed into the eye.  On average, most patients can expect a 60% to 90% improvement in the mass and/or amount of floaters.

Vitreolysis is a minimally invasive and painless procedure, typically taking 20-60 minutes per treatment session.  On average, patients will require two treatment sessions to achieve a satisfactory result.  No pre- or post-operative eye drops are needed, and following the procedure, no restriction on activity is required.

The goal of vitreolysis is a reduction in the size of floaters to achieve a functional improvement, allowing patients to return to normal day-to-day activities, without the hindrance of visible floaters. While some floaters can be effectively treated, several floater types are difficult to address and/or less likely to regress than others.  Accordingly, it is necessary for patient candidates to undergo an ophthalmic examination to determine suitability for vitreolysis.

Those interested in being evaluated for vitreolysis by a board-certified Center For Sight ophthalmologist should call 702.724.2020 to schedule an appointment or go to www.centerforsightlv.com.  With four locations in southern Nevada, Center For Sight is a comprehensive ophthalmology center dedicated to the most compassionate, individualized, and highest standard of eye care.
