XL Capital Ltd Expects Third-Quarter 2008 Book Value to Range from $21.00 to $22.50 Per Ordinary Share
-- Book value, as of September 30, 2008, is expected to be in the range of$21.00 to $22.50 per ordinary share on a fully diluted basis. On that date,the Company's total common share count was approximately 330.8 million.
-- The Company estimates that during the third quarter of 2008, thedecline in value of its investment portfolio (comprised of changes inunrealized losses, other than temporary impairments and realized losses onsecurities sales) due to movements in market prices was in a range of $1.0billion to $1.2 billion.
-- XL's estimated book value per ordinary share as of September 30, 2008(as estimated above) was also negatively impacted, although to a lesserextent, by the strengthening of the US Dollar versus other leading currenciesduring the period.
XL also announced that it intends to hold a conference call to discussthis announcement and the quarter's preliminary results at 8:30 a.m. EasternTime on Tuesday, October 14, 2008.
