With the whole process starting in July, the second "WuXi PharmaTech LifeScience and Chemistry Award" set the scope of the selection as preclinicalpharmacology and toxicology. This year's selection panel was comprised ofeleven scholars with industry expertise. Dr. Sang Guowei, Vice Chairman of theStanding Committee of the National People's Congress, served as Chairman ofthe selection panel. Other panel members included Dr. Wang Li, Professor ofSichuan University and Director of Chendu Traditional Chinese Medicine SafetyEvaluation Center, Dr Li Bo, Director of the National Center for SafetyEvaluation of Drugs, Dr. Li Ge, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of WuXiPharmaTech, Dr. Zhang Yongxiang, Vice Director of the Science and TechnologyDepartment of Academy of Military Medical Sciences and Researcher of ResearchInstitute of Drugs and Toxicants, Dr. Chen Kaixian, President of the ShanghaiUniversity of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Academician of Chinese Academyof Sciences, Dr. Chen Shuhui, Chief Scientific Officer of WuXi PharmaTech, Dr.Lin Guoqiang, Professor of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry,Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr.Zhou Honghao, Professor of Central South University and Academician of ChineseAcademy of Engineering, Dr. Yuan Bojun, QA Director and Professor of New DrugSafety Evaluation of Second Military Medical University, and Dr. Liao Mingyang,Director of National Beijing Center of New Drug Safety Evaluation Research ofResearch Institute of Drugs and Toxicants of Academy of Military MedicalSciences.

Twelve winners were selected through rigorous, objective and transparentevaluation. Dr. Wang Guangji, Vice President of China PharmaceuticalUniversity, won the Special Prize. The First Prize winners are Dr. Ren Jin,Director of Safety Evaluation Center of Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica,Chinese Academy of Sciences and Dr. Li Chuan, Researcher of Shanghai Instituteof Materia Medica Chinese Academy of Sciences. The Second Prize winners are Dr.Ma Jin, Director of the National Shanghai Center for New Drug SafetyEvaluation and Research, Dr. Zhu Yichun, Professor of Fudan University, Dr. LuGuocai, Director of New Drug Safety Evaluation of Second Military MedicalUniversity, and Dr. Guo Qinglong, Professor of Department of Physiology ofChina Pharmaceutical University. The Third Prize winners are Dr. Wang Quanjun,Vice Group Leader of the General Toxicology Group of the National BeijingCenter for New Drug Safety Evaluation Research of Research Institute of Drugsand Toxicants of Academy of Military Medical Sciences, Dr. Mao Yu, Researcherof New Drug Safety Evaluation of Second Military Medical University, Dr. YangJingyu, Associate Dean for Life Science and Biopharmaceuticals in ShenyangPharmaceutical University, Dr. Jiang Dejian, Vice Researcher of the Departmentof Pharmacology of Pharmaceutical Faculty in Central South University and Dr.Ju Zhenyu, Associate Professor of the Institute of Laboratory Animal Science,Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.

The second "WuXi PharmaTech Life Science and Chemistry Award" receivedgreat support from the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area andSuzhou Wuzhong District.

About WuXi PharmaTech Life Science and Chemistry Award
The WuXi PharmaTech Life Science and Chemistry Award was approved andendorsed by the National Office of Science and Technology Awards in February,2007, designed to promote China's scientific and technological development.WuXi PharmaTech will reward young professionals of Chinese citizenship whomake an outstanding achievement in the field of chemistry, biology, or otherlife science related disciplines. Each year the scope of the award selectionwill be settled on chemistry, toxicology, biology, pharmacology or one of therelated fields.
WuXi PharmaTech provides one million RMB to fund such an annual awardbeginning in 2007. The Special Prize winners, First Prize winners, SecondPrize winners and Third Prize winners will get a reward of 200,000 RMB,100,000 RMB, 50,000 RMB and 20,000 RMB respectively.
In the first half of the calendar year the award organization settles thescope of the award selection and announces the selection procedure on thecorporate website and in related academic journals. Applications are acceptedthrough both individual submission and recommendations by scholars andprofessors in the related fields. In the second half of the calendar year aselection panel is built to conduct the award selection and the company willhold the awards ceremony at the end of the year.
