Event to Feature 4 Prominent Physicians Discussing "Healthy Practice/Healthy Life" Challenges

NEW YORK, Sept. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Achieving that challenging balance between a physician's thriving  medical practice and a fulfilling personal life is the focus of the first Women in Medicine Network conference to be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, featuring four prominent female physicians who have successfully navigated through these issues. The event will be held from 6:30 p.m.  to  9:30 p.m. at Café SFA in Saks Fifth Avenue, 611 Fifth Avenue in New York, and is free of charge. Prestigious speakers include:

  • Dr. Padmini (Mini) Murthy, a Professor and Global Health Director at New York Medical College. Dr. Murthy is a respected physician (a trained obstetrician and gynecologist) and activist who has practiced medicine and public health for the past 28 years in various countries. She is also a frequently published author and editor of Women's Global Health and Human Rights, a widely-used text book worldwide. Dr. Murthy serves as the Medical Women's International Association NGO representative to the United Nations, and also serves a member of the Executive Council of the NGO CSW Committee of NY at the United Nations. She is a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine and member of the inaugural  cohort of  the American Medical Women's Association.
  • Dr. Maria E. Maldonado is a primary care physician for the Mount Sinai Health System and is also an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine working with the Mount Sinai St. Luke's Hospital and Mount Sinai West residency program. She is Chair of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine's Diversity and Inclusion Committee and is on the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine Council.  Her research and clinical interests are in cultural competency and health care disparities, implicit bias, medical education, the delivery of patient centered care, and caring for an underserved patient population. 
  • Dr. Alice Furman currently practices internal medicine in Manhattan, where she is a partner of Mount Sinai Associates in Internal Medicine and an assistant professor of medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.  She received a fellowship in Infectious Disease at the New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
  • Dr. Elizabeth Anderson is the managing partner for Paramount Care Physicians in Virginia. Since 2004, this dual role as a physician and managing partner has provided her with a bird's eye view of the changes in health care and allowed her to explore innovative strategies for patient care. As the mother of  two children, one of whom with a developmental disability,  Dr. Anderson is active in community groups that assist and support in the social and vocational needs of individuals with autism.
