SEOUL, South Korea, Oct. 13 Tobacco use was responsible for 100 million deaths globally in the 20th century. If the current patterns continue, it will cause one billion premature deaths in the 21st century unless effective interventions are implemented. To address this serious global health issue, leading physicians are gathering at the first-ever smoking cessation symposium during the World Medical Association's 59th general assembly in Seoul. A panel of experts in smoking cessation will discuss the global fight against tobacco use and urge physicians around the world to take strong action to discuss the dangers of smoking with patients and effective treatments available to help them quit.
