Wall Street community invests in future of groundbreaking research and lifesaving care for children battling cancer at St. Jude
MEMPHIS, Tenn., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On November 12 more than 550 members of the Wall Street community gathered at Pier Sixty in New York City for the 20th anniversary "Taste of New York" event, which helps raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital(R), one of the world's premier pediatric cancer research centers. This year's event raised more than $1.6 million for St. Jude, bringing the Wall Street community's 20-year fundraising total to nearly $30 million.

"The people of Wall Street have shown a remarkable ability, even during these difficult economic times, to raise the critical funds needed by St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to fuel the research and treatment that will save children's lives," said Richard C. Shadyac Jr., CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising organization of St. Jude. "We are so grateful for the Wall Street community's unwavering support of St. Jude. Event attendees mingled as they sampled cuisine from some of New York's finest establishments, including Bobby Van's Steakhouse, Dawat Restaurant, Delmonico's, Vermont Butter & Cheese Co., STK, Carlyle Restaurant, Pier Sixty Restaurant, Pop Burger, Grotta Azzurra, A.J. Maxwell's Steakhouse and Harry's. Guests worked up an appetite with silent and live auctions of a number of one-of-a-kind items, including a visit for four to the set of NBC's Emmy award-winning show "The Office." Andy Buckley, who plays "David Wallace" on the popular show, attended the event to help generate excitement for this auction item. Additional auction items included the chance to watch a Rangers game from a luxury suite with Mark Messier and a private plane to a villa in the Baker's Bay Golf & Ocean Club.

The evening's entertainment was graciously donated by the Skipp Pearson Jazz Foundation. Robert McCann, a long-time event co-chair, as well as Thomas C. Quick, member of the National Committee of the ALSAC/St. Jude Boards of Directors and Governors, and John Lattanzio, both of whom helped found the event, were honored for their roles in making the "Taste of New York" a success. Presenting sponsors for this year's "Taste of New York" event were SAC Capital, Bank of America - Merrill Lynch and The Willits Foundation.
The "Taste of New York" is organized by the Wall Street Committee, which consists of more than 60 investment professionals representing nearly every major stock and investment firm in the industry. Created in 1989, the Wall Street Committee was originally comprised of 16 Wall Street executives. The committee was formed in response to an appeal from St. Jude founder Danny Thomas.
