WAG Brides Come Together To Celebrate One Big Day
WAGs Boutique stars launch Cancer Research UK’s search for the nation’s brides
Footballers’ Wives and real-life brides-to-be Charlotte Mears and Heather Swan are helping to launch Cancer Research UK’s search for the nation’s brides. The stars of ITV2’s WAGs Boutique, who are both expected to get married to their footballing partners in the next 12 months, are kicking -off the campaign to find a local bride for each of the Race for Life events happening on ‘One Big Day’ on 3rd June.
Now in its 14th year, Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, supported by Tesco is the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK. Following the huge success of the event in 2006, Race for Life is again hosting ‘One Big Day’, on 3rd June 2007, with 24 races taking place at 16 different venues across the country on the same day. Over £850,000 to help beat cancer is expected to be raised on this day alone by bringing together more then 110,000 women.
To mark ‘One Big Day’, Cancer Research UK is looking for recent brides and brides-to-be who have been affected by cancer in some way – either directly or indirectly - to help start their local race. Charlotte – engaged to Spurs and England ace Jermain Defoe - will be taking part in Race For Life’s ‘One Big Day’ celebrations, running in memory of her grandfather, alongside Heather, who is engaged to Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra.
Charlotte Mears Said: “It’s really important that as many women as possible participate in Cancer Research UK's Race for Life this year and raise money for their life saving work. My Grandfather died of cancer so I understand how this disease touches so many families and how hard Cancer Research UK is working to fight it. Although I am really excited to be getting married, I haven't set a date for my own big day yet - instead, I'm going to be asking all my friends and family to sponsor me for my run on Race for Life's One Big Day.”
Heather Swan said: “The biggest day in a woman’s life is her wedding day and I’m no different – I can’t wait for mine at the start of next year in Ireland. Race for Life's ‘One Big’ Day is another occasion that means a lot to so many women and I can’t wait to take part in Race for Life on June 3rd and raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK.'
Any brides or brides to be who have been affected by cancer and would like to be involved in a Race for Life event in their area on ‘One Big Day’ can apply by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org, explaining why it should be them. All entries should include the name of the race they are taking part in and an attached photograph. (A full list of Race for Life‘s One Big Day events is below).
Each Race for Life event covers a distance of 5k, encouraging women of all ages and levels of fitness to participate. Race for Life 2007 looks set to break all records by raising £60 million to help beat cancer, by bringing 800,000 women together at 280 events across the UK
