PHILADELPHIA, June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of Greater Philadelphia announced a new member elected to its Board of Trustees: Stephen Spinelli, Jr., Ph.D., president of Philadelphia University.

"It is an honor to be joining the Board of the Visiting Nurse Association of Greater Philadelphia," Dr. Spinelli said.  "The VNA's mission is critical to addressing important home health care issues in this area and its mission dovetails closely with so many of the health-related programs at Philadelphia University."

In 2007, Dr. Spinelli became the president of Philadelphia University, a 3,500-student private university with a focus on innovation and professional education. Philadelphia University has more than 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in design, business and engineering.  Its health-related programs include Midwifery, Physician Assistant Studies, Occupational Therapy, Disaster Medicine and Management, Public Health and pre-medicine.

Prior to joining Philadelphia University, Dr. Spinelli held various leadership positions at Babson College, particularly in the area of entrepreneurship, and was co-founder of Jiffy Lube. As an academic and a consultant, Dr. Spinelli's work has appeared in the Journal of Business Venturing, the British Management Journal and Frontiers of Entrepreneurship. He has been featured in such popular press as the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Boston Globe and Entrepreneur. He has authored numerous business cases and co-authored Business Plans That Work, Franchising: Pathway to Wealth Creation, How to Raise Capital, Never Bet the Farm, Entrepreneurship: The Engine of Growth and New Venture Creation for the 21st Century.

Dr. Spinelli received his Ph.D. in Economics from The Management School, Imperial College, University of London, his M.B.A. from Babson College and B.A. in economics from McDaniel College.

The VNA's mission is to provide comprehensive, home-based, health care services and community-based health programs of the highest quality to all people regardless of their ability to pay for care.  The VNA provides a wide-range of home health care services, including hospice, physical and occupational therapy and chronic care programs for adults throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania.
