IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 7 Is it possible to deliverhigh-quality dental care at affordable prices? Venture Health Group believesit is possible and is out to prove it on a large scale.

Venture Health Group (VHG), headquartered in Monterey Park, California, provides business, technology and information management support services todentists. It is a fast-growing company with an aggressive business plan.

"Our primary focus," says Eric Kaw, CEO of VHG, "is to improve the dentalhealth care delivery system. It's simple, really - we relieve dentists of anyadministrative burdens, we give them leading-edge equipment, and we use thebest available information management technology to squeeze out many of theinefficiencies seen in a typical dentist office. The end result is thatproviders can treat their patients more effectively at affordable prices, while actually increasing their income."

But, what Kaw describes as simple has been elusive to many. "Ourdifference, our advantage," he continues, "is that we recognize that thenewest advancements in technology, when used intelligently, can significantlyincrease efficiencies throughout the entire delivery system. In most dentalpractices, the inefficiencies created by the use of older technology cascadethroughout the entire organization. It's a case of the tail wagging the dog."

VHG's choice of Planet DDS web-based software is right in line with itsphilosophy of using leading-edge technology to maximize effectiveness andminimize expense.

According to Richard Lee, CEO of Planet DDS, "It's a joy to work with VHG.We didn't need to show them why Internet technology is ideal forgeographically dispersed dental groups. They already understood it. We startedwith our standard web-based practice management application, called Denticon, and modified it to meet their needs. They have some great ideas - veryinnovative."

Why does web-based practice management software give VHG an advantage?

"The Internet allows data to be stored in a central location on areal-time basis," says Lee. "This means that anyone, with proper securityclearance, can access the data at any time from anywhere. This opens a wholenew world of management and professional collaboration possibilities. Manytasks that traditionally require in-office staff can now be performedcentrally from literally anywhere in the world. Patient records, which can bepaperless in Denticon, are accessible to any provider throughout the entireorganization, no matter where they are."
